The trustees of Bow Foodbank are looking for someone with diverse experience and interest in food aid to join the Board as Chair and to us lead through a time of challenge and change. This small charity, doing urgent and vital work, particularly during the Covid19 crisis, is helping over 500 people a week though our two foodbanks.
We operate on the basis that:
- anyone is welcome to come for food, no referral needed;
- we are entirely volunteer-run (except for additional help needed during the lockdown);
- we are funded by donations and gifts from the community, from other charities, and from corporate bodies;
- we are an independent charity based in Tower Hamlets, formed in 2014.
Our trustees are people from a wide range of community organisations, faith groups, and individuals with relevant expertise, united in wanting to help alleviate food poverty in our part of London. The charity is not affiliated, although we work with others such as in the provision of pro bono advice services.
The new Chair will need to be strategic; able to work collaboratively with people from all backgrounds; and familiar with managing a disparate and entirely voluntary organisation. Our trustees work well together and find the work involved to be richly satisfying and purposeful.
